An Unfortunate and Lengthy Adventure in Misdiagnosis

Ear problems and salicylates

Apparently having chronic childhood ear infections or having to have grommets in your ears as a child is a strong warning sign that you may have salicylate or other food chemical intolerance. I wonder, therefore, how common food chemical intolerance is?

In my circle of friends I know five people apart from me who have or have had chronic problems with their ears. It’s interesting because, of these people, two are desperately overweight for no medical reason and both have arthritis (one at thirty, the other since twenty), another (me) suffers hypoglycaemia and fibromyalgia, and a fourth is addicted to cigarettes, red wine, and salads, and has headaches, digestive problems, and gets very stressed. The fifth has intermittent epilepsy, yet another of the constellation of food chemical intolerance symptoms. Coincidence?
